The Great Barrier Reef Foundation in collaboration with Mansfield State High student authors have published an e-book that was presented at the Brisbane Writers Festival in September. More than 20 students across Years 8-10 were selected to participate in a four month on-line creative writing experience with the aim of producing a fictional narrative that examines the issues facing the Great Barrier Reef, climate change and how youth can contribute to its sustainability.
Students worked with specialist mentors and focused on four key subject areas: English, Science, Visual Arts and Computer Technology. The students created a fictional drama where the story is fresh, realtes to the Great Barrier Reef, and uses a range of visual aids and electronic resourses in order to create an interactive experience for young teenagers to enjoy.
The e-book project was part of the Foundation’s whiteout program that engaged students and explored science through creative arts.
