It's up to the youth of today to make an impact on the future of the Great Barrier Reef. By making small contributions, we can all preserve something of such immense value to Australia. Saving energy and water are some ways to contribute.

Scott
Take young people to the reef, so that they fully understand how important it is to save it.

Calum
Start a myspace and facebook page for whiteout and use these for online events and to raise awareness. Organise school fundraisers and events for whiteout - competitions etc.

Sebastian
We should be more careful with the Reef so that our younger generations can see its beauty instead of not being able to see its glory. It's one of the largest reefs in the world so help us protect it.

Nicholas
It's God's Reef! We see something possessing no knowledge, namely a physical object, act towards a goal. From this it follows that they are always or almost always active in the same way in order to attain that which is best. From this it follows that they attain their goal not by accident but purposefully. But that which has no knowledge tends towards a goal only by being with knowledge and reason. Hence an intelligent being exists by whom all things of nature are directed towards their goal and this we call God.

Beth
Young people can do many things to help save the reef. They can spread information using new technology. They can also speak to their parents and friends and vote later on in life. They can also learn while they're young which means they grow up with the right idea. People can have environmentally friendly lifestyles and homes as well. We can also provoke emotions. We can also help by choosing a career that will make you closer to the reefs.

Justine
You could hold more "switch off your lights" days. I always want to participate in them, but they pass by so easily without much public recognition. If we made it a big deal once a month (and awarded frequent flyer points or something) then maybe more people would participate and more public awareness would be generated. Also more children's books about global warming could be made. This way kids would learn at a young age about global warming, then you could introduce how this affects the Great Barrier Reef.

Philomena
The reef is a beautiful creation that we should cherish and look after. There are still many things we can learn from it. We can all do our bit. Recycle and don't pollute. Let's not take it for granted.

Christian
The Great Barrier Reef is more that Australia's biggest reef it is a world heritage. People keep on saying "we can do something", we more than "can" we have to. It is a global emergency. Don't just feel bad that it's dying, do something instead, trust me it's worth it!

Show the world it's everybody's responsibility to look after the reef. It is the greatest single living organism in the world. If the problem gets increasingly bad, encage a small part (1km) in an aquarium type thing and regulate the temperature to keep it alive. Teach kids and tourists about how to save the reef.

Andrew
By letting this international landmark die we are letting a part of world history vanish. We can get the rest of the world on board with the cause. This gets worldwide funding to help save this landmark.

Stephanie
Use a green shopping bag instead of the usual plastic bag.

Daniela
Young people firstly need to be aware that the Reef is in danger and that their help is required. Schools should encourage students to help and have activities about saving the reef. Don't kill fish. Don't spill on the water.

Klaudia
I think that as a young person, it is kind of a necessity to help save the reef. All we can do is restricted to our own homes or schools. Environmental Council all the way! Spread the message, it's not just Australia's reefs at risk.

Ashley
First of all, this beautiful reef needs to be shown on TV and the internet. Encourage schools to communicate with students about the reef. Raise funds - wristbands, music festival.

Ryan
In America farmers were forced to get their water from downstream of their location. Because they would then have to deal with whatever they released, dumping decreased markedly and the river system became significantly cleaner.

Janna
Young people should really be made aware about the concerns for the reef, but also be educated as to how to help. What we do in our homes can be so indirectly related to the effects on the reef that we may not even know that we're causing such harm.

Luisa
Get schools involved to make young people aware of the issue.

Junna
Make they aware by TV ads and more little kids shows. Get involved by fundraising at schools. Have excursions to the Great Barrier Reef.

Jason
Well, since global warming is doing the damages to the Great Barrier Reef, so I guess we have to try and reduce the amount of CO2 in our atmosphere, as a car lover, I believe that the usage of hydrogen fuel cells as future energy for cars is a brilliant idea, the only thing to come out of exhausts is water.

Warwick State High School

Pattie
- Get more funding e.g.. go global.
- Gather more people.
- Do tests and research to find out more information.
- Have more protection.

Gabby
- Reduce climate change with basic actions that we can all do. E.g., water saving, saving energy, stop global warming.
- Protect the wildlife on the Reef.
- More research.
- Inform as many people as we can.

Aidan
I think young people can help because we are the future. Also I think we should tour around schools to demonstrate the threats that out reef faces and what young people like ourselves can do to fix it. Also get a grant to start groups, like the unfunded my river in costal schools, to look after the reef and marine biology itself in small ways.

Jordon
Try and stop the global warming effect to save the reef. Educate the world about the danger that the reef is in. Keep tankers from going near the reef to prevent pollutions and destruction.

Alison
Send out competitions in Australian on who can send out the best message to the world. They can use ads, paintings, songs, and design shirt logos which can spread the word to people all around the world not just about wanting to go there but saving it and keeping the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef alive.

Rebecca
I think reducing what we are using at home. Send out arm bands or other information about this issue as it's not over yet.

Melanie
International advertisement to tell the world about the reef and how important it is. Ever since I was eight years old I have dreamed of becoming a Marine Biologist.

Lucian
Make more people aware around the world of the issues. Donate money and have more opportunities for donations.

Hugh
Maybe figure out a way to "replant" or recreate parts of a reef if it gets to such a level of deterioration that the reef is dying out.

Xavier Catholic College

Nikki
Just save the environment. Don't litter etc. We can all contribute to saving the world so why don't we try. The affect of global warming on the environment is enormous, we can stop it!

Tara
We need to understand that we live in Australia and the Great Barrier Reef is ours, we need to take care of every aspect. Be creative! Engage with other youth and tell them the importance of the reef through a song - myspace/internet.

Laura
We need to save the reef. It's so beautiful. If we work on youth awareness through schools. Showing people how amazing it is hopefully will have an effect on them, like me, knowing we need to do something for this incredible ecosystem.

Danya
- Educate the youth of Australia.
- We are the solution, no one else is going to fix it.
- We need to act fast.
- Lower the levels of carbon dioxide emitted at home.

Kayla
- We need to act fast, our reef's dying.
- We can't just sit back and watch the reef die and we can't rely on just the government.
- Consider the amount of electricity I use that I don’t need.
