Dr David Wachenfeld

David has been a Research Program Director and member of the AIMS Leadership Team since 2023. He has worked in marine tourism, science and marine park management on the Great Barrier Reef since 1993. His career spans a wide range of coral reef issues, including adaptation to climate change, development of Marine Park zoning, eco-tourism, improving sustainability of fishing, crown-of-thorns starfish control, and development of reef restoration techniques. Through the variety of roles he has held, David’s focus has been on strategic science communication and leadership, and translation of scientific understanding into real-world policy and program decisions.
