In partnership with Containers for Change

We are proud of our partnership with Containers for Change, supporting members of the Queensland Marine Turtle Network to protect marine turtles and their habitats.

About the Partnership

Marine turtles are among the Great Barrier Reef’s most iconic animals, but they face growing pressures from marine debris, habitat loss, climate change and other human impacts. Responding to these challenges requires local knowledge and communities with the resources to act when and where they’re needed most.

We’re partnering with Containers for Change to help fund community groups delivering practical conservation on their local beaches. The Queensland Marine Turtle Network Community Grants Program provides grants to support activities such as beach clean-ups, habitat restoration, turtle monitoring, nest protection, volunteer response equipment and community education, giving local groups the resources they need to respond quickly to threats and protect turtles and their hatchlings.

As Queensland’s container refund scheme, Containers for Change helps Queenslanders reduce litter, recycle valuable materials and create positive outcomes for their communities and the environment. Through this partnership, that commitment is extending to practical, community-led action to protect marine turtles, coastal habitats and the Great Barrier Reef.

Throughout the 2026 turtle nesting season – which runs annually across Queensland from October to April – Traditional Owners, community organisations and volunteers from the Queensland Marine Turtle Network will be on the ground tagging and monitoring nesting turtles, removing marine debris, restoring turtle habitats and inspiring their communities to join the movement.
